Anthropologist, editor, and translator Ben Joffe and SKY Press editor-in-chief Christiana Polites will discuss the recently published, groundbreaking book Karmamudra: The Yoga of Bliss by Tibetan doctor and tantric yogi Dr. Nida Chenagtsang.
Ben and Christiana will offer historical and cultural context for the role of sexual yoga in Tibetan tantric Buddhist traditions and outline how Tibetan sexual yoga differs from neo-tantric practices. Discussing Dr Nida’s motivations for publishing his book, they will explain how it seeks to respond to patterns of sexual abuse taking place in both Buddhist communities and society at large. Expert nejang instructor and retreat leader Christiana will also guide attendees in a simple breathing meditation from the book (see also separate full-day nejang workshop on Saturday, December 22).
Dr. Nida has said, “I am really happy that this book has already been able to benefit so many people in these very confused modern times and I sincerely hope that it will continue to do so in the coming times. My wish is that this book can stimulate open and honest discussion about Karmamudra practice in many different circles.”
This is not a formal teaching; it is a scholarly elucidation and discussion, with a guided meditation drawn from the Yuthok Nyingtik lineage. It is open to everyone, and there will be ample time for Q&A!
